Sofia is feeling better and seems to be mostly over the virus/infection. She is still working up to eating full bottles again though. The plan is to hook her up to the home vent at the hospital tomorrow. Here are some recent pictures of her holding her head up and being held by the occupational therapist while mommy tried to get her to smile.
Daniel is now 11 pounds and seems facinated by a Tina the Tiger Lamaze toy, shown in the picture below. He is doing well sleeping in his crib and slept 6.5 hours last night! His drooling now requires daily bibs.

Tuesday Update
The home vent has arrived at the hospital, however we are now waiting for the stand before it is hooked up. Also, Sofia is battling some trachi-itus, which is a generic term for an infection that is fairly common in the trach area. She is not eating as well by bottle, is coughing and breathing faster, and needing a lot of suctioning. The doctors are starting antibiotics today. Hopefully, they will be able to hook her up to the home vent tomorrow, depending on the arrival of the stand and pending some improvement.
Daniel slept in the nursery for the past 2 nights, and has begun sleeping for about 5 hours straight during the night. He seems like such a big boy, graduating to his crib. He likes the fact that he can throw his arms wide while sleeping since he now has so much room. He is still teething and drooling all the time, but only gets fussy because of it once in a while. We hope this good sleeping trend continues.

Waiting and Weaning
Grandmommy and Granddaddy visited this weekend. Here is Granddaddy holding Sofia, and another picture of her happily looking at her toys. We are now waiting for the home vent to arrive at the hospital and in the mean time, the doctors have been weaning Sofia's rate.
Here is Daniel getting some Daddy cuddle time.

Good News
We got the news today that the doctors requested that the home ventilator be ordered for Sofia, and it should arrive at the hospital later this week. This is an important step and means she will be on the path to getting home soon. She tolerated all the weans last week and this one so far, and the doctors will continue to wean her once the home ventilator arrives. Mommy and Daddy are going to try to wrap up our training this week and prepare for our 12 hour shifts that we will need to complete as well. She was happy today during Mommy's visit - see the picture slide show below.
Daniel is teething and spent a few rough days/nights this past weekend, but is a bit better lately. He is too young to hold onto teething toys, so our best option has been the refridgerated binky which he likes to chew on. We did try rice cereal as the pediatrician suggested. The first time he seemed to like it, but last night was not interested. It also does not seem that his tummy is ready to digest it, so we'll give it a bit more time. Here is a tummy time slideshow of Daniel.

6 Months Old
Daniel and Sofia turned 6 months old yesterday! Here are some recent pictures. Daniel went to the pediatrician today for his immunizations and checkup. She prescribed a new drug for his persistent thrush. Otherwise he is doing well and is 10lbs 4 oz. Sofia is close behind. The doctors weaned her rate today on the vent and so far she hasn't even noticed.

Another snow day
We got about a foot of snow around here so Daddy was stuck at home. We're pretty sick of snow around here, especially since it keeps us from seeing Sofia. She's doing ok, should be weaned down back to room air by now. They will probably not wean her pressure any further until this weekend.
We made Sofia a CD with Mommy and Daddy reading stories and Mommy will bring it to her tomorrow. And the biggest news: Mommy was able to give Daniel his first haircut! Take a look...

Grandma and Grandpa with Daniel
Here they are.
We didn't go see Sofia today due to messiness on the road before yet another super huge snowstorm in the NE. Sofia is doing a bit better on her feeds but is up a little on her oxygen as she is still trying to adjust to her last wean. Daniel had a pretty good but sleepy day today and did play a bit with mommy and daddy.
We also spent the day recording some stories for Sofia which we will burn to a cd and bring in for her on Tuesday.
